ا‎ ā (long) and a (short). The first letter of the Arabic and Malayan alphabet, named أَلِف‎ alif.
اب٢‎ aba-aba tackle, gear, traces, harness (for draft cattle). Aba-aba lembu gear for oxen. Kena-kan aba-aba ka-pada kandāran harness the draft cattle.

ابد‎ abad, Ar. an age; eternity.

ابراهيم‎ ibrāhīm, Ar. the patriarch, or, according to the mahometans, prophet Abraham.

ابڠ‎ abang, Jav. red. (Vid. ميره‎ mērah.) Kāin abang red cloth. Bāwang abang the common red onion. Chin͠gkarīang abang a species of the erythrina with red blossoms.

ابڠ‎ abang the eldest brother or sister; ainé, Fr. (Vid. كاكق‎ kākak and اديق‎ adīk.) Like most of the terms of relationship, it is employed as a familiar and friendly vocative. Adoh abang O my brother, or friend! Ko-māna garāng-an abang-ku pergi whether, I pray thee, is my brother (art thou) going? Men͠gāpu ghāib-lah de māta abang wherefore concel yourself from the sight of your friends?

ابليس‎ iblīs, Ar. one of the names of the devil. (Vid. شيطان‎ shētān.)

ابم‎ abām, fulerum; bois d'appui, Fr. Abām kamūdi the cross piece of timber which supports the rudder in Malayan vessels. Abām tīang the timber or thaft which serves to steady the mast; the partners.

ابنتار‎ abantāra, a herald. (Vid. بنتار‎ bantāra)

ابو‎ abū, ashes, dust. (Vid. هابو‎ abū)

ابي‎ abai or abei to disregard, hold lightly. Ombak de abei-kan-nia they disregarded the surf.
