and whatever is conducive to their good should be regarded as a necessity.

But Canada's watchword is progress, and we may feel sure that she will not be slow to recognize the importance of pro- tecting her women workers from the inevitable evils arising from the rapid growth of manufactures. The time has passed when women depended upon their frailties for protection, but a new and better era is at hand when the working-woman may demand fair treatment in behalf of her womanhood and humanity.
