One was a woman aged 60, who had had small-pox 20 years before, and whose face was pitted with it. The vaccination proceeded with her quite normally. She had had typhoid fever severely in 1 850. It seemed as if the typhoid fever had not only produced a permanent effect on the constitution, but removed that condition of inaptitude for vaccination which had been left by the first vaccination or by the small-pox.
