Neilson, of Scotland, and was cducated at Wiesbaden. She ecarly displayed a striking gift for music, and, having carried off the [lewellyn Thomas medal, the Sainton Dolby prize, the Westmorcland scholarship, and other honours at the London Academy ot Music, 1t was natural that she should have been at first intended to follow music as a profession. She displayed, however, so much promise as an actress on the amateur dramatic stage that in 1888, when at the age of nineteen, she made her ap- pecarance in ** Pyomalion and Galatea,” at the Lyccum. Thence she went to the St. James's, and finally to the Haymarket, where she has remained ever since,
