Received his first commission in 1795; obtained the rank of commander, Oct. 13, 1807; and lost la Flêche sloop, off the mouth of the river Elbe, May 24, 1810. He subsequently commanded the Coquette, and was removed from ​her to the Griffon brig, in June, 1814. His promotion to post rank took place Jan. 1, 1817. Captain Hewson married, in 1808, Miss Marshall, of Great Grimsby.
