TRUE, Frederick William, American biologist: b. Middletown, Conn., 8 July 1858. He was graduated at the University of the City of New York in 1878; entered the government service in 1878; and was expert special agent on fisheries for the 10th census, 1879. He was curator of the department of mammalia at the United States Museum, 1881-92, an executive curator, 1892-97. In the year last named he was appointed head curator of the department of biology at the United States National Museum. He has written ‘Review of the Family of Delphinidæ’; ‘Whalebone Whales of the Western North Atlantic’ (1904); ‘Observations on Living White Whales’ (1911), etc.
