Visitor information
- 🌍 iKew Visitor Information Centre, 133 Nancy Bird Walton Dr, ☏ +61 2 6559 4400. Daily 9:30AM–3:30PM.
Get in
Kew is on the A1 Pacific Hwy with exits on both sides of the highway. Kew is about 30 minutes (~50 km) north of Taree and 15 minutes south of Thrumster (Port Macquarie on/offramp).
There is a train station in neighbouring Kendall, but it is a 30-minute walk and there's very little reason to visit Kew without a car.
Get around
Most of Kew's points of interests are on the single main street through town, Nancy Bird Walton Dr. The town is fairly walkable in the sense that everything is just a few minutes of each other, though it isn't necessarily pedestrian-friendly.
See
- 🌍 Big Axe, 133 Nancy Bird Walton Dr. An 8-metre-high axe next to the visitor centre constructed in 1979, perhaps the only thing of note in the town too. A small side road exists to get to the axe with enough parking (it's almost never full despite not being a large carpark).
Do
Buy and eat
- 🌍 Kew Corner Store, 155 Nancy Bird Walton Dr, ☏ +61 2 6559 4131. M–F 5AM–7PM; Sa Su 6AM–7PM. A step above your average corner shop, with a good selection of local produce and breakfast/lunch fare like bacon egg rolls and wraps made to order. If hungry, try the "Kew Corner Roll", which throws in everything except the kitchen sink.
