Pola de Lena

Pola de Lena (Asturian: La Pola) is a village in Asturias, Spain. It has 7,000 inhabitants (2023) and lies on the Camino del Salvador of the Way of St. James.

Get in

Pola de Lena is about about 25 km south of Oviedo: take a CTA bus from the ALSA bus station for €3.75 (Nov 2024) or a train for €3.80 (Nov 2024).

From León take an ALSA bus or the train.

From the Asturias airport take a non-stop ALSA bus to Oviedo and then an CTA bus to Pola de Lena.

Get around

The town can be easily explored on foot.

Church of Santa Cristina de Lena
  • 🌍 Church of Santa Cristina de Lena. A Pre-Romanesque church that is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

  • 🌍 Palacio de Faes, Carabanzo. A Baroque palace, in ruins since the Civil War, that was built in the 17th century for Matías Faes Miranda, who among other positions served as a judge in the Manila Court.

It has a skiable area of 30.9 km of slopes, accessed by 1 cable car, 2 chairlifts, 2 ski lifts, and 2 conveyors. It has two cross-country routes, a snow park in the upper part of the resort, a route for cross-country skiing within the resort, and a sledging area. It has 140 accommodation places at the foot of the slopes.

There are several ATMs. The ATM of Unicaja Banco (Liber bank) does not charge a fee for withdrawing money with an international credit card.

Pilgrims can sleep in the municipal albergue, which may not be open in winter. The hostel Albergue Roma is also for tourists and can be used for more than one night.
