- ↑ The Brut y Tywysogion (Chronicle of the Princes) records this in 838 as the "Battle of Cyfeilog" between Wales and "King Berthwryd" (r. 839–852) of Mercia and makes clear that Merfyn died in the action. Sources describing the Welsh as rebelling against the rule of Beorhtwulf's son in 853 imply they were subjugated.
- ↑ The Brut records this as 850 and adds that it was by his own men.
- ↑ Jonathan was probably the abbot of the Celtic monastery at Abergele. Cf. Charles-Edwards, T.M. "The Heir-Apparent in Irish and Welsh Law" in Celtica, Vol. 9, p. 180–90. Dublin Inst. for Adv. Studies, 1971.
- ↑ The Brut places Rhodri and Gwriad's death at the Battle of Sunday and places the event in its entry for AD 873. It goes on to say that after Rhodri's death, the Saxons were chased from Anglesey by its furious women.
- ↑ The Brut places Cadwallon and Rhydderch's deaths together in 961.
- ↑ The Brut y Tywysogion lists both Macht and his brother Godfrit as attacking and colonizing Anglesey in its entry for AD 968.
